Responding to global industry trends and developments, the Institute for Information Industry established Data Analytics Technology & Applications (D.A.T.A.) Institute in January 2015.D.A.T.A. formally merged their Advanced Research Institute and Cloud System Software Institute.D.A.T.A. has brought together experts in diversified fields, directed its R&D capabilities toward the four major technological areas of "cloud system software," "big data management," "smart system service and applications program interface management," and "cyber-physical integrated CPS platforms," and established a big data analytics team spanning different industries, as well as the domains of hardware and software. Relying on big data analytics as a catalyst, D.A.T.A. hopes to jointly construct smart IoT ecosystems together with businesses.

II. Four Leading Key Technologies
1. CAFE Cloud Software: Building Accessible Corporate Cloud Systems
D.A.T.A.’s Cloud Server System Software (CAFE ) has helped SMEs in Taiwan deploy simple, easy-to-use private cloud services with high performance-price ratios.
The CAFE software has been licensed to 12 companies thus far, and has catalyzed the establishment of two startups and four new cloud enterprise groups. D.A.T.A. also prompted Syscom and Tokai Communications to establish the Yunma joint venture. By utilizing CAFE, Yunma has seen success on the Japanese market, where they have served over one hundred SME customers. D.A.T.A. offers comprehensive technical support and training classes to help companies use cloud computing to enhance their technological competitiveness.
2. Bistro Big Data Management Platform: the Door to Data Economy
D.A.T.A. has developed the Bistro Big Data Management Platform, a big data analytical solution integrating the two open source software- Apache Hadoop and BDAS (the Berkeley Data Analytics Stack). Bistro shortened the time corporates needed to deploy big data analytics platform and their total cost of operation (TCO), which effectively facilitated a fast deployment of dedicated big data analytics clusters. The Bistro enables companies to seize new business opportunities in the data economy by using the information management layer to organize and analyze needed data.
D.A.T.A. brings together inter-industry and inter-domain experts to jointly develop applications modules that can be used by various industries with the Bistro to implement innovative application services.
3. Smart System Service and API Management: Accelerating the Transformation of Companies
D.A.T.A. has the Smart System Service (S3) development methods and application programming interface (API) management platform that can quickly adjust information system, and effectively connect, manage, and integrate external resource services to further accelerate enterprise innovation.
The Smart System Service (S3) development methods and tools are suitable for various industries and can convert strategic goals and operating needs to information service processes, building a stronger integration between business operations and information services.
4. Cyber Physical System Platform: Realizing the New Era of “Smart”
D.A.T.A. has designed a standardized virtualization device integrating heterogeneous flows from devices of all types to serve as the core of its Cyber Physical System DevOps Platform (CPS).
The CPS platform was first applied in a "Smart Online Solution" for senior health care services. The platform supports three major international data interchange standards, employs the open source Cloud Foundry Platform architecture, and supports many frameworks, languages, operating environments, cloud platforms, and application services.
In the future, D.A.T.A. will continue to use the platform to enhance companies’ service competitiveness.

1. Smart Tourism: Building a Cross-industry Economic Ecosystem in Tourism
Since 2013, D.A.T.A has built the “Smart Tourism Platform” that enables tourists to travel around Taiwan using Smart Tourism Application as if they are having their personal tour guides. D.A.T.A. has also established the Smart Tourism Value Creation Alliance in 2015 to connect the tourism industrial chain and create a cross-boundary ecosystem in the tourism industry.
The Smart Tourism Platform provides comprehensive inventory management, member management, order management, and cash flow management systems.
It adopts an API framework, meaning that companies ranging from large corporate groups and micro-vendors can all become contracted vendors on the Smart Tourism Platform. Furthermore, the platform will also feed the results of analysis back to contracted merchants to help them invent innovative business models.
2. Smart Commerce: Integrating Omni-Channel with Advanced Smart Commerce Solution
D.A.T.A has three achievable "Smart Commerce Solutions" of Social Network Joint Intelligence Analysis System, Location-based Advertisement Placement Decision-making System, and Shopping Center Joint Control Analytical System.
The "Smart Commerce Solution" helps companies optimize products and corporate operations, draft appropriate sales strategies and reduce inventory risks.
Moreover, D.A.T.A. provides consulting services, customized system development and integration services, and has successfully helped a well-known international cosmetics and beauty chain achieve sales growth by a factor of 1.5.
3. Smart Health Care: Developing Real-Time Caretaking to Ensure the Quality of Life the Elderly
D.A.T.A. has developed a “Smart Health Management Service Platform” to help doctors gauge patients' state of health and provide appropriate care. D.A.T.A. has also established a "Smart Online Solution" and formed strategic alliances with well-known domestic nursing homes and hardware device manufacturers to jointly develop health care management services. In addition, D.A.T.A. has integrated environmental, medical, and wearable devices and equipment to analyze human body activities, design flexible control process, and develop personalized caretaking record. When an abnormality is detected, the system can directly notify emergency responders. D.A.T.A. looks forward to utilizing technologies to help transform health care industry into a high-value industry.
4. Smart Manufacturing: Creating High-added-value Products to Develop New Applications and Opportunities
D.A.T.A. has established a “Smart Manufacture Solution” and successfully helped an electronics manufacturer produce chips and sensors that can be used in wearable devices and become a high-value health service provider.
D.A.T.A. helps industries such as high-tech manufacturing, textiles and plastics optimize products and services realize customized production, boost production efficiency, maintenance costs, and ease the problems of labor shortages. This further optimizes their relationships with up- and downstream industry ecosystem partners and open up new opportunities for industries.
5. Financial Technology: Creating a New Era of Fintech
D.A.T.A. has established a "FinTechBase" to build an innovative financial technological ecosystem formed by Taiwanese government agencies, academic institutions, research organizations, and start-ups. The FinTechBase aims at providing Taiwanese start-ups with consulting services and assistance, connecting Taiwan with advanced global financial technology network, and facilitating the training of financial technology personnel as well as start-up teams.

6. Smart Agriculture: Visioning a LOHAS Agriculture
D.A.T.A. has cooperated with the government, industry, academic, and research agencies and organizations to develop the “Agriculture 4.0 Information Platform” with big data analytics capabilities. This platform can gather rich agricultural data and will dramatically boost farmers' planting and fertilizing efficiency.
