Network and Multimedia
Under government-funded projects, III is in charge of developing advanced networking and multimedia technology for local industries. The main competencies can be categorized into the following:
Broadband Wireless Technology
III has developed WiMAX radio access protocol, WiMAX BS system, WiMAX PCT/RCT, WiMAX network management, WiMAX radio resource management, WiMAX IP networking/switching technology, WCDMA L2/L3 protocol, HSPA Home NodeB, and Ethernet L2/L3 Switch technology.
Based on these network technologies, manufacturers in Taiwan have developed their own respective products for 4G applications. By cooperating with ITRI, Nokia, and Intel, III participated in IEEE 802.16 International standardization activities way back since 2006. III also operates the IOT center to conduct inter-operability testing and verification of WiMAX BS and devices for the M-Taiwan projects, including the issuance of the "M-Taiwan Logo" to well-qualified WiMAX products.
Mobile Multimedia Technology
III has further developed a wide range of innovative software for mobile devices, including audio/video codecs (e.g. H.264, MPEG4 and AAC+), 3D Man-Machine Interface that complies with OpenGL and JSR 184, and SIP/IMS client applications that comply with JSR-281 and IMS Service API.
Android Embedded Platform Technology
III has also developed a wide range of competitive applications on the Android platform based on the ARM and x86 architectures: III's embedded multimedia codec, streaming library, media player, VoIP, IMS-enabled rich communication components and 3-D graphics. These state-of-the-art innovative technologies can be used in the fields of mobile entertainment, surveillance and mobile TV.
MeeGo Embedded Platform Technology
The development of MeeGo technology is for building up an ODM/OEM/OSV ecosystem for the MeeGo open source platform, and for targeting products such as the Netbook, MID, IVI and Smartphone etc.
The core technology of this center includes four  MeeGo-based applications and one Chromium-based product. The service-oriented user interface, widget framework, connection manager intelligent agent, smart home S/W platform and local server technology will be adopted widely by the Taiwanese manufacturers for a broader range of devices.
Sensor Networks and Intelligent Digital Life
III integrates key technologies, such as the environment sensing, controlling, and human behavior recognition technologies to further develop the value-chain in the intelligent life industries. With that, III will help people to realize the various possibilities in the future living space by building a ready-to-use information and communication network. For instance, two  major application domains we currently focus on -- the green energy management and smart buildings. In addition, III also devotes ourself to catalyse the growth of the industry by offering innovative solution prototypes and demonstrations
For the energy-saving and carbon emission reduction, III further developed an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart grid application services based on verified WSN technologies. III created a large-scale data collection and analysis platform to effectively reach energy conservation goals with the network management and data processing on integrated technologies of sensor networks, ,.In addition, III led aggressively industry alliances and established industrial consensus to form industry standards that would resolve inter-operability issues. The acceleration of advanced meter infrastructure will create value-added services to improve our national competitiveness. III, as the Cloud Technology Enabler, would actively partake in the operation of the Taiwan Cloud Computing Consortium supervised by the MOEA in order to seize the demand of the future product market by leading the development of the latest technology and service, and to promote the Taiwan IT industry in becoming a major exporting nation in the global cloud computing system and as a solutions provider. IDEAS and NMI of III are endeavoring in the development of the Cloud Computing key technology. The core technology includes:
- Cloud Appliance Software technology.
- Cloud Desktop Service and Cloud Device technology.
- Cloud Security technology
The above-mentioned technologies are going to be applied in the Cloud Computing Data Center (public cloud/private cloud, education cloud, healthcare cloud, SME cloud domain etc.)
By integrating these core technologies from the client’s perspectives to build up the next generation of network environment, III would assist the government to advance the infrastructure of smart living, and elevate the country’s status to become an intelligent Taiwan.
