New │ Using 3 critical technologies to build a complete solution package forging intelligent power management system
Impact │ Improve the power usage efficiency and reach the energy saving efficiency to 12% and cost saving efficiency to 15%.
Key │ Integrate sensing, analyzing and loading control technologies to fulfill the purposes of energy and cost saving.
Evidence │ Gained 2014 WITSA Global ICT Technology Outstanding Award and implemented in colleges with an excellent record of power usage decrease by 18% at peak hours. Critical 3 technologies Lead the Way to Intelligent Energy Saving In 2006, former U.S. vice president Al Gore presented to the world the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” which gained a lot of attention around the globe and aroused people to face the seriousness of the increasing greenhouse gases as well as the problems caused by global warming. According to the research statistics from the World Resources Institute, energy consumption is the major source resulting to greenhouse gases, which accounts for 66 percent of the total greenhouse gas emission. For this reason, energy conservation and carbon reduction are the inevitable international responsibilities of the countries around the world. Since global energy has gradually dried out, how to avoid energy waste and increase efficiency are prior to other issues.
Two Most Imperative Parts of Energy Internet Established To save energy and increase efficiency, Institute of Information Industry (III) led the research and development of “III-SEMS Intelligent Energy Management System” which includes “Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) System”, “Smart and Valid Energy (SAVE) Open Automated Demand Response (Open ADR) Platform”, and “In-Snergy Cloud Based intelligent Green Energy Management System”. These 3 critical technologies are integrated to form a complete intelligent energy management system. By the technologies of intelligent IOT and information analysis, the duration and the amount of energy needed for the peak hours can be predicted so that the optimized strategy for providing sufficient amount of time for traveling load and lowering extra load can be generated. The two most imperative parts of energy internet, “Sensing” and “Control”, are well established.
“III-SEMS Intelligent Energy Management System” can detect electricity usage in the office after work and turn off the lighting and air conditioner when no one is within. By “Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) System”, all real time user power consumption data can be traced. Further, “Smart and Valid Energy (SAVE) Open Automated Demand Response (Open ADR) Platform” can automatically analyze all area power dissipation and predict power demand as well as provide end users the capability to control power load shedding or decreasing so that power consumption at peak hours can be lowered. Finally, all information of the system is integrated into the “In-Snergy Cloud Based intelligent Green Energy Management System”. Users can log on to the cloud platform with portable devices and immediately be offered energy management services such as punitive tariff management, equipment abnormality diagnosis, and equipment management, etc.
Double Benefits: Energy and Cost Saving The “Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) System” of “III-SEMS Intelligent Energy Management System” has successfully installed in the power system of National Central University, which collects 99 percent of all power usage information and reaches 18% power load shedding at peak hours. By integrating all digital meters in the school, III assisted the school authorities establish a fee collecting system so that various steps in the fee collecting process such as meter reading, payment distribution, and spreadsheet generating can be conducted automatically without mistakes caused by human negligence. With the detailed power usage data of all department buildings, people in charge can examine the contract capacity as well as procedures taken to save energy. As a result, the amount of power usage decreased by 10% comparing to that of contract capacity and the saved amount of annual basic charge accumulated to 2.2 million NTDs. Further, through the energy control system installed in department buildings, energy charge can be decreased by 1.5% which equals to 1.5 million NTDs. The total of the above mentioned two items reaches 3.7 million NTDs. Not only can the system save sufficient amount of power charge, but also can bring about the benefit resulted from low power consumption.
By assisting domestic firms develop AMI solutions, III's tender for Taiwan Power Company's 10 thousand low voltage user bidding project has also been successfully accepted. III further schedules to continuously coach domestic information and communication digital meter companies to grasp the business opportunities of intelligent meter reading systems as well as intelligent power networks.
Additionally, by transferring technologies to domestic companies, III was able to shorten the process of research and development of related firms and expedite the pace of domestic enterprises entering the foreign markets. So far, the solution has exported to 8 countries abroad and accumulated more than 10 experiments for special area on-site verification. “III-SEMS Intelligent Energy Management System” was also awarded “2014 Global Information Technology Outstanding Persistent Developing Award” by WITSA, which demonstrated that the technology capability of Taiwanese firms has rivaled international big enterprises in the intelligent power management field.
Since intelligent power networks and intelligent power management are the imperative developing areas in the information and communication fields around the globe, III will continuously develop related technologies as well as solution packages in the future and assist related firms developing own technologies to avoid the technology restrictions curbed by foreign companies.
