III Invites Companies like Intel and Acer to forge StarMaker, the platform searching, incubating, and creating future stars with accelerated pace

With the rising trend of startups in Taiwan, how to build a diverse entrepreneurial environment for startups constantly pursuing perfection, expedite cross field startup collaboration, increase international cooperation possibilities, and assist Taiwan new startups go on the stage of future stars have become more and more important!
Directed by Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs, for the first time, III, Inspring Super Ideas, and National Chiao Tung University collectively held “StarMaker Dream and Star Creation Platform Orientation x Future Star Entrepreneurial Party” activity series following “2015 Emerging Industry Incubation Acceleration Project”. The event invited Minister of Economic Affairs Mr. John Chen-chung Deng, Small and Medium Enterprise Administration Director General Johnny Yeh, III Chief Information Officer Dr. Hao Chun Tai, Former Sony Music Greater China President Adam Tsuei and the representatives of well-known companies like Intel, Acer, and Hiiir etc. as well as the first batch participants of the startup teams of “2015 Emerging Industry Incubation Acceleration Project”. All inviting guests joined the “Pasting Stars, Making commitments” activity to wish all the best for the startup teams and the entrepreneurs all determined firmly to continue the entrepreneurial path and be among the ones of future startup celebrities.
Former Sony Music Greater China President Adam Tsuei not only shared his story about how he left his well-paid position and courageously dedicated himself to his startup and, how to, out of millions of people, find partners in the industries different from his own such as Giddens Ko and Claire Kuo etc.( their collaboration set the billion record for Taiwan domestically produced movies) but also promised to be one of the marketing tutors for StarMaker.
Creating his own business when he was still a student, the founder and CEO of the 2008 startup Hiiir John Yeh told everyone his entrepreneurial journey from the start. The company’s original goal was to build a joint broadcasting platform but it could not deliver profit for a period of time until Far EasTone Telecommunications finally came in. John gave his points about why he decided to accept the investment, how he led the company from loss to profit, and how he transformed his role to carry out given assignments from the company without losing entrepreneurial spirit.
Furthermore, the event also invited the representatives of Intel and Acer, two of the medium and large enterprise partners. Intel manager Yu-Hao, Lin indicated that to cultivate and accelerate the idea development and creation consolidation ability of Taiwan startup teams, Intel will cooperate with III to provide RealSense, a technology development engine that is helpful to the development of innovations and creations, for StarMaker, which can act as one of the best tools for Taiwan startup teams to test the multiple applications of future life innovations and creations.
Acer senior manager Chieh-Chih, Tsai expressed that Acer is conducting Acer BYOC Blue Sky Program so that, from inside out, Acer can apply the global cloud infrastructure and service, Acer Open Platform (AOP), and Acer’s existing brand, channels, service locations and resources to assist the growth of the startup teams. In the future, Acer will collaborate with “the cloud generation” to fully grow in the ecosystem that integrates hardware, software, and service and together go on the international stage.
In terms of reality, startup teams not only will face difficulties in technology development, creativity commercialization, and channel expansion but also will encounter sticky problems which require professional knowledge in law. Owing to this situation, III Chief Information Officer Dr.Hao-Chun Tai indicated that, in the future on the platform of StarMaker, III will provide various kinds of legal consultancy service for startup teams from law professionals especially in the fields of capital raising, enterprise investment, patent protection, and cooperation contract formulation.
What is worth mentioning is that, to expedite and expand the collaboration between Taiwan startup teams and international professionals, the joint implementation units of “2015 Emerging Industry Incubation Acceleration Project” have already work together with well-known incubators from the United States, Europe, and Mainland China and formed a worldwide network for new startups. These incubators include Mass Challenge, Plug & Play, Rocket Space, Founder Space, Yushan Ventures, and Startup Experiences etc. Holding the principle of equality and reciprocity and providing entrepreneurial tutors, capital, and networks, the accelerators assist the startups build stronger business models and develop managerial capability with global competitiveness so that domestic entrepreneurs can successfully take their businesses into international markets. Furthermore, the project also helped startup teams reside in Nangang Software Incubator. These teams are taken care by one of the joint implementation units, Inspring Super Ideas, which provides the best startup environment and related coaching services.
This year, the project also combined with the APEC Accelerator Network Summit & Global Challenge held by Intel and Siemens. To sharpen the pitch skill of the startup teams in the “2015 Emerging Industry Incubation Acceleration Project”, the event further invited cooperative partners from Silicon Valley holding Boot Camp in Taiwan in the hope that Taiwan startup teams could stand out of the crowd in the competition. In the meantime, the event also gathered the resources from the industry, government, and academy such as III and NCTU and connected venture capitals, startup social networks, groups of entrepreneurial service, and activities for interaction and communication. It is expected that these actions can create a startup ecosystem which will act as the intermediary role between the startups and the government, large enterprises, and international channels and head steadily toward the goal of playing the role as the invisible hand behind future Taiwan startup future stars.

*APEC Accelerator Network Summit & Global Challenge attracted 400 entrepreneurs of 30 top teams from 21 countries coming Taiwan in 2013 and 2014. The event has become one of the well know Startup Summits in Asia and Pacific area. The teams included GogoLook, AirSig, Viscovery, and AdLocus.
