Trends of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Rise, the Maker Industry Emerges. “Maker Faire Taipei” Attracts Domestic and Foreign Talented Makers to Huashan Creative Park Exchanging Ideas.

Do you have the passion for making things? Are you one of the Makers? Maker Movement is running in full swing in the advanced American and European countries. The movement is perceived as one of the most imperative beginnings of “The Third Industrial Revolution” and is expected to be the crucial key factor that turns things inside out in various fields such as manufacturing, social reformation, technology, education, and the medical industry etc. In the U.S., the new force of Maker Movement generating its power from normal civilians not only caught the attention of Barack Obama, the president of the United States, but also that of the related departments in which professionals further transformed strategies into solid steps and actively incorporated the concept of “making” into the education system to which elements like the Internet and social network are complementary.
As a matter of fact, the government in Taiwan is diligently promoting to establish the innovation and startup ecosystem. One can see the beginning from the glimpse of the recent launch of Taipei Expo Park for Innovation and Startups and TAF innovation base; Allied with Fullon publishing, one of the subsidiaries of Tai Tien Electric CO., LTD. ,which has long supported the cultural creativity industry restlessly, III, the organization which has assisted Taiwan government promote the innovation and startup strategies, collectively held the 3rd annual “Maker Faire Taipei” & the 1st Maker Conference - FUSIONERA starting on May 30th for consecutive 2 days. The event invited Executive Yuan Vice Premier Mr. San-Cheng, Chang as the opening guest and also attracted superb domestic and abroad keynote speakers who are familiar with the knowledge and culture in the field of makers to give speeches. By theme speeches, the keynote speakers such as Seeed Studio founder Eric Pan, UC Berkeley Invention Lab host Christopher Myers, NTUEE professor and CEO of Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Ping-Cheng (Benson) Yeh can assist participant understand more about the maker spirit stressing openness and sharing.
As for the exhibition floor plan, different regions were mapped out specifically for a variety of purposes such as the robotics area, the interactive device area, the 3D module area, the handicraft area, and the little maker area. Given these style distinct areas, makers are able to exhibit their unique handmade products. Moreover, the scale of the well acclaimed “Robotics Competition” is enlarged this year. It is expected to have more than 10 various genres and types of competitions. For example, the current most fashionable obstacle race for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), robot boxing, the competitions for 4 wheel drives (4WDs) and speed competitions for sensor activated motorized car kits all present to visitors the various fields of application of robots rather than the simple use for business purpose. After further exploring, visitors attending the exhibition are all surprised by the amazing and interesting applications of the robots in addition to business production.
III President Ruey-Beei, Wu indicated that the industries of the Internet and virtual community as well as the mobile industry bring about the entrepreneurial opportunities for people with creativity and innovation. Also, Taiwan ranks among the best countries in the coverage rate of the Internet and smart mobile device. Furthermore, the key factor of technology innovation is the talents. Those who not only can come up with the products that meet users’ demand but also be able to create and execute fresh, surprising, and practical ideas are the one with the capability to create a new market. Along with the change of market ecology, a new form of business model has gradually taken shape. Makers make their product prototype and then, through the process of website crowd funding, propaganda on social media, market testing and consumer demand verifying, mass produce the product. This has become the next wave of business models and is worthy of market attention.
The ability of creative talents in Taiwan cannot be underestimated. In 2015, the Executive Yuan also launched “vMaker” program in which Maker Fab Truck toured every high school to give speeches in the hope that the concept of cultivating the next generation makers can be generated early from schools and the current education models can be fundamentally flipped over so that students can be encouraged to start implementing their own projects earlier. In the future, by diverse counseling mechanisms, III will continue to play the role as the most important supporter leading Taiwan society transforming into an innovation-oriented society. Furthermore, by nurturing various types of startups, it also expects to create a dynamic startup ecosystem leading the new waves of entrepreneurship.
To facilitate the promotion of government startup policies, collaborating with Fullon publishing, one of the subsidiaries of Tai Tien Electric CO., LTD. , III held consecutive two days the 3rd “Maker Faire Taipei” & the 1st “Maker Conference - FUSIONERA”. The event specifically invited NTUEE professor & MOOC CEO Ping-Cheng (Benson) Yeh sharing his successful experience leading his team to develop world first on-line learning system PaGamO. Through the speech, the maker spirit of openness, sharing and fun-exploring can therefore be delivered. The speech attracted more than hundreds of audiences.

Specific areas are mapped out for makers to exhibit their hand made works and interact with teammates from various startup teams. These areas include the robotics area, the interactive device area, the 3D module area, the handicraft area, and the little maker area.
