The size of Myanmar is about 19 times that of Taiwan with a population of 52 million people, which is about 2.2 times that of Taiwan. It is a country full of natural resources such as wood, rice, mines, and petroleum and belongs to the countries of emerging markets whose information and communication market is far from development. There are more and more Taiwanese businessmen going to Myanmar for business development. Myanmar Computer Federation is a Myanmar government sanctioned organization whose status equals to that of National Federation of Industries of Taiwan. It is the only national federation in information and communication industry in Myanmar, which gathers professional talents in specific domains such as system integration, software development, information and communication talent training, etc. The workshop was conducted collectively by MCF and III. During the event, Myanmar Computer Federation CEO Mr. U Khun Oo and Institute for Information Industry International Division Director General Mei-Li Hsiao signed MOU to improve the communication and business development between Myanmar and Taiwan in the information and communication industry as well as to grasp the business opportunities within the collaboration process.
During the one day “2015 e-Government and Smart ICT Workshop”, III invited one of the co-founders of Acer computer Inc. Mr. Chung-Ho Tai, now the president of Jasper Display, to give a speech titled “Increase Friendship by Information and Communication Technologies”. The representatives of both III and MCF reported the current development situation of their own countries and III International Division Director Shun Jung Tu introduced Taiwan's blue print of e-Government. The curriculum in the afternoon included recent successful smart information solution packages that Taiwan exported to other countries in the fields such as smart traffic control system, EasyCard traffic fee collecting system, i-campus and intelligent energy management system, etc.
The members of MCF, Myanmar government officials promoting information & communication programs, representatives from the military, police, prison authorities, and related industries all participated in the discussion in the workshop and all express their high interest in the solution packages provided by Taiwan excellent professionals, which can be applied in various fields. From the viewpoints of Taiwan representatives, they think that it is a valuable and rare occasion that participants in uniform from different fields can dedicate all their effort and pay attention until the last minute.
The two sides, both Taiwan and Myanmar, consider this is a successful workshop that came to the results exceeding expectation. In the future, the workshops related to this one should be held continuously to increase the collaboration between the two sides in the information and communication industry.
