Taiwan III and Paraguay PTI Sign MOU to Export Information and Communication Solution Packages regarding Smart City, Digital Learning, and Energy Management

To understand the information and communication solution packages provided by Taiwanese firms, Dr. Maria Teresa Peralta, CEO of the only technology park, Parque Tecnológico Itaipu (PTI), in one of our most important countries with diplomatic relationship in South America, Paraguay, led the delegation with 4 members visiting Taiwan under the support of Office of Economic Counsellor, Embassy of ROC, Bureau of Foreign Trade. On November 27th , witnessed by Marcial Bobadilla Guillén, Ambassador of Embassy of Paraguay in Taiwan and the representative of Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, PTI and III signed MOU to cooperate in the fields covering smart city, electronic government, assistive technology, e-learning, and energy management etc.
III CEO Ruey Beei, Wu indicated on the ceremony that the signing of MOU is expected to bring about more collaboration between Taiwan and Paraguay and assist Taiwan’s information and communication solution packages to be accepted and launched in Paraguay so that the country could become the base of information and communication technology in South America. On the other hand, PTI CEO Dr. Maria Teresa Peralta pointed out that she expected the collaboration between the two sides could be strengthened in the future and provide vital assistance for the development of technology and innovation in Paraguay.
Located in Itaipu technology park, Itaipu hydroelectric power plant is established mutually by Paraguay and Brazil on the Parana River where Iguazu falls situated. It is currently the largest operating hydroelectric facility in terms of energy generation. Until October 2015, the number of accumulated generating electricity capacity had reached 100 million trillion watts which surpassed that of the Three Gorges Dam in China. According to the field study conducted by III in Paraguay, simply 25% of the electricity generated by Itaipu hydroelectric facility can cover most Paraguay’s power demand and the rest is sold to Brazil, which becomes the second largest export trade income. Since Paraguay values highly of technology and innovation, the Itaipu Technological Park Foundation (ITPF) supported by the power plant originated the Itaipu Technological Park to facilitate the technology and economic development in Paraguay.
In June 2015, invited by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Oscar Stark, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Paraguay, led a delegation and visited III in order to fully understand the information and communication experience of Taiwan. Afterwards, Deputy Minister Mr. Stark immediately invited III to Paraguay for information and communication experts from Taiwan can directly meet up and communicate with Paraguay’s local professionals, which was also the cause of signing the MOU. According to PTI’s information regarding Paraguay’s utmost desire, III International Division specifically arranged the schedule leading the representatives to meet up with nearly a hundred of professionals and to visit more than 20 organizations covering industrial firms, political units and research institutes such as Nan-Kang Software Incubator, Department of Information Technology, Taipei City Government, Information and Technology Division and Traffic Control Division of Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government, Taipei Bus Station, Hsin-Chu Science Park, Taiwan Area National Freeway Bureau, Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co. (FETC), Advantech Co., Ltd., Speed Tech Corp., International Integrated Systems Inc., StudyFun Technology Inc., III Digital Institute and Smart Network System Institute, Taipei Veterans General Hospital Rehabilitation and Technical Aids Center, and United Daily News Group Education Division, etc.
Through various meetings during the visit, every unit is able to marvel Paraguay’s guests with professional capability and experience related to smart applications and intrigued their interest in cooperating with Taiwan. With signed MOU, III International Division becomes the platform for further communication between two sides in the field of information and communication technology applications.
