III signed MOU with Lazio Innova of Italy to facilitate the collaboration and match business opportunities for Italian and Taiwanese companies in the Smart City Industry

To promote the cross border cooperation related to the technologies and applications of Smart City, in recent years, III actively makes contact with important regional and city governments in Europe and expects to combine the concepts of European innovation application and design thinking with the research and development capability as well as the hardware and software integration ability of Taiwan to assist Taiwanese firms continuously improve their competitiveness in the tide of globalization. In 2016, dovetailing with Taipei Smart City Exhibition, III invited the government team from Lazio, Italy and signed MOU on 24th March to help companies in Taiwan further understand current focus and demand in the development of Smart City in EU countries. Moreover, the two sides also discussed the possibility to work closely with each other grasping business opportunities in the third country together such as countries in southeast Europe.
Lazio is one of the 20 administrative areas in Italy. It has a population of 6 million and its GDP is about 1700 Eurodollars. It is the second largest administrative area in terms of population and economic strength with its capital located in Rome. Lazio Innova was founded in 2014 by the administrative government specifically in charge of economic development as well as the promotion of innovation. The development of Smart City applications and digital creativity industry is one of Lazio Innova's main administrative items. Lazio Innova expects to develop long term strategic partner relationship with countries in Asia and specifically chose Taiwan as one of its main collaborative partners.
Italian industries have long been well known for their prospective design and innovation ability. In recent years, they appeal to the public by the closeness of their products to human demand and actively develop cross domain applications and services of Smart City. Since Taiwanese industries have the advantages in the fields of manufacturing and research and development, the firms of the two countries undoubtedly have mutual interest base as well as collaboration opportunities given the complementary strength of the two countries. By the cooperation with Lazio Innova, III intended to promote the collaboration in Smart City Domain between Italy and Taiwan and gain more business opportunities for related industries in European market.
Witnessed by Donato Scioscioli, Representative of Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei and Chien-Ping Wang, Deputy Director-General of Department of Investment Services, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Mei-Li, Hsiao, Director General of International Division, Institute for Information Industry represented Taiwan and signed MOU with Luigi Campitelli, Director General of International Division, Lazio Innova and Head of Smart City Delegation, Italy. In the future, the two sides will further cooperate with each other by this operative framework and match companies between Taiwan and Italy to mutually develop innovative applications and services in Smart City domain. Further, it is expected that firms in these two countries could expedite their collaboration process so as to participate together in the projects supported by EU such as Horizon 2020 and to facilitate the long term development and infuse innovative ideas into the industries in this field.
The members of the Lazio delegation from Italy included not only the representatives of Lazio Innova but also experts from ENEA, an Italian National Research Institute, in the areas of Smart Energy and Smart Agriculture, academic heavyweights from Rome University in charge of large scale EU smart transportation programs, and startup founders from the fields of Smart Transportation, Intelligent Surveillance, and Intelligent Lighting. During the visit, except for taking the guests to exhibitions and speeches, III also arranged meetings for representatives and experts of domestic firms and research institutes to discuss with Italian representatives in hope that the two sides could grasp the opportunities to promote solid cooperation between Taiwan and Italy in the Smart City related domains.
