III Leads Taiwan EC Enterprises to the Southeast. SMEs from Malaysia and Taiwan Work Collectively to Create New Opportunities for the Development of Electronic Commerce in ASEAN

From August 6th to August 7th, 2016, Small and Medium Enterprises(SME) Association of Malaysia and Institute for Information Industry (III) held SME E-Commerce & Innovation Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, which attracted about 200 Malaysian SMEs. Keynote speakers included HCT logistics General Manager Cheng-I, Li, III International Division Director General Mei-Li, Hsiao, III IDEAS Deputy Director General Yu-Hsiang, Hung, III International Division Senior Planner Hung-Ji, Lin, Hawooo.com CEO Chien-Cheng, Chiang, and GSS Corporation General Manager Flora, Hu, etc. The topics of the event covered electronic commerce and cross border logistics as well as logistic and cloud services. Attendees considered that the successful experience in EC industry and SME innovation in Taiwan will be extremely helpful to the participants of the event since the valuable know-how could be the guidance for future development. By sharing practical experience, invited speakers could pass on their field knowledge to the audience and further facilitate possible business cooperation.
In December, 2015, Mr. Michael Kang , National President of SME Association of Malaysia and Dato Jeffrey Low Boon Hing led members of the association visiting III. During the visit, III International Division Director General Mei-Li, Hsiao received them with sincere warmth. While discussing the topic that regional economic organizations such as AEC and TPP will have a great impact on the development of Malaysian SMEs, participants of the meeting all concluded that there is a desperate need to create new operation model for the development of electronic commerce and cross border logistics so as to grasp new business opportunities in Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) markets. For the reason, the delegation visited and held conference in Malaysia to facilitate the communication and cooperation of SMEs between two sides.
In the morning, August 8th, invited guests of the opening ceremony were at present including National President of SME Association of Malaysia Michael Kang, Executive Committee Member Dato Jeffrey Low Boon Hing, MATRADE CEO Dato’ Dzulkifli Mahmud, III International Division Director General Mei-Li, Hsiao, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia Economic Division Leader Ming, Chang. Chang indicated in his speech," Regional integration continues in recent years. In the future, it is expected that ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) will gradually alter the economic conditions of a nation. Facing the alternation, the SMEs of Malaysia and Taiwan have different challenges. The reason why III holds the workshop and leads representatives of various industries such as electronic commerce, logistics, cloud service is that by facilitating mutual understanding and increasing communication between SMEs of the two countries, participants in these businesses could discuss the trend of future development and map out the plan for development collectively." There are representatives from nearly 200 companies attended the workshop, which indicated that Malaysian SMEs felt the approaching of future opportunities and challenges and urged to transform by introducing EC models as well as information and communication applications. Since the content of the speeches is practical and abundant, representatives of important departments and companies from Malaysia and Taiwan were all looking forward to more events of the kind held in the future.
National President of SME Association of Malaysia Michael Kang, President of SME, Klang, Yen-Lay Foo, and III International Division Director General Mei-Li Hsiao discussed the possibility of future cooperation and came up with a preliminary conclusion. In the future, III will assist SME Association of Malaysia facilitate the communication between industry participants of Malaysia and Taiwan, introduce electronic commerce and information communication services, increase idea exchanging opportunities for future development, and collectively hold activities that smooth SME development.
