Therefore, abnormal incidents won't be missed because of human negligence and manufacturing processes could be multi-dimensionally detected so that the goal of establishing an unmanned factory is fulfilled.

By turning the power generating wheel for only 8 seconds, the system could immediately display the current bus location. In the meantime, the system has been in service in Jianshih Township, Hsinchu County.

Considered "The Oscars of the Technology Industry," R&D 100 Awards presents its 56th annual ceremony the night on November 16th (EST) in Florida. Supported by the special project from the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), Ministry of Economic Affairs, the four technologies, "Monitor and Diagnose Framework for Manufacturing Processes (MDFMP)", "Hybrid MassLINK Bus Stop", researched and developed by Digital Transformation Institute (DTI), Smart System Institute (SSI) of Institute for Information Industry (III) stood out among over 1,000 competing innovative technologies to win The 2018 R&D 100 Awards.
MDFMP helps factories control manufacturing process with speed and accuracy
Factories in Taiwan often rely on manual monitoring to look for the causes that lead to low efficiency. Through human monitoring, it is not only impossible to immediately grasp the situation of manufacturing process, but it is also hard to have a complete understanding of the bottleneck problems. Even though many enterprises expect to achieve intelligent manufacturing via the latest technologies, the software available on the market usually has its application barriers, with high purchasing and modification costs as well as difficult operation process. In response to this demand, III tailors the system, “Monitor and Diagnose Framework for Manufacturing Processes” (MDFMP), to the specific needs of these companies. With system modularization allows for to instant introduction for industrial application as well as intelligent machine monitoring and yield detection. The system is able to shorten labor hours, reduce business operation cost, and assist managers instantly monitor situation on production lines.
Monitor and Diagnose Framework for Manufacturing Processes (MDFMP) adopt the modular design which is highly expandable and maneuverable so that it can flexibly adjust various functions of the system in accordance with client demand. Currently, the system has been applied to a number of industries such as Semiconductor packaging and testing, plastic extrusion, and battery assembly, to name a few. Not only did it save enterprises millions of dollars in operation cost, but also cultivate many information professionals who are accustomed to making strategic decisions based on solid data. In fact, one of the well-known domestic plastics companies obtained a comprehensive view of the whole plant after applying the system. The original operators of the factory equipment successfully are now managers taking responsible for equipment monitoring as well as product manufacturing. The goal of establishing unmanned factories is therefore accomplished. III expects to help more companies get the edge on their competitors by advanced data analysis ability and transform into digital enterprises.

Smart Transportation “Turn the Power Charging Wheel and Hybrid MassLINK” Bus Stop prevents transportation blind spots in remote areas
Due to the diverse topography throughout Taiwan, transportation development varies in each region. In contrast to cities, rural areas normally have to deal with lack of public transportation system. To solve the problem, III’s Smart System Institute (SSI) developed Hybrid MassLINK Bus Stop, the first system in Taiwan of its kind, with the support by Ministry of Transportation and Communication as well as the Technology Development Plan. By turning the power charging wheel underneath the bus stop sign for 8 seconds, the system could immediately boost and display the current location of the bus so that passengers could estimate the arrival time more accurately and make the most of their time.
Hybrid MassLINK Bus Stop regularly transmits real-time bus information to the host machines of each county government. After processing the real-time bus information, it will transmit the information to every intelligent bus stop by Hybrid Mass LINK. The passengers simply have to turn the power generating wheel. After receiving the arrival information of the buses, the system will light up the LED on the bus stop sign to let commuters know the exact location of the buses. Currently, the system has been in service in Jianshih Township, Hsinchu County. In the near future, it is expected that the system could serve in more rural areas.
