III Assists Global Digital Multimedia Technology Company AVID Establish R&D Center in Taiwan to Strengthen Domestic Technology Capability and Stimulate Industry Upgrading

To facilitate the technology leap and development of digital content industry in Taiwan, this year, III Industry Development Augmentation Division (IDAD) assisted US digital multimedia technology corporation AVID Technology establish R&D center in Taiwan under the instruction of Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs. On 20th Aug, III invited Ming-Ji Wu, Director General of Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Hong Yang, Deputy Director-General of Department of Investment Services, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Yi-Ming Ho, InvesTaiwan Service Center CEO, and Irving H.C. Tai, III CIO to attend the opening ceremony.
AVID Taiwan R&D Center is the first research and development center of AVID locating outside the US. After establishment, it will focus on the design, development, and provision of software and hardware integrated solution packages for professionals, artists, and entrepreneurs creating digital media content for the music and video industry.
AVID Global Supply Chain and Hardware Technology Vice President Bruce Yaung pointed out in his speech on 20th August that there are some critical factors influencing AVID to choose Taiwan as the final location establishing its R&D center such as the ample supply of excellent technical professionals, fully developed hardware and software industrial clusters, and high integration capability of technical support. Furthermore, Taiwan government also provide R&D subsidies for companies from other countries to create an environment suitable for foreign businesses. After serious consideration, AVID decided this year to set up an operation site in Taiwan and actively dedicated to the digital cultural creativity industry as well as the research and development of video industry. In the future, it is expected that AVID will provide 95 work opportunities domestically and train more talented specialists with professional skills in these fields.
Ming-Ji Wu, Director General of Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, indicated that AVID, one of the global digital multimedia big brands, establishing its R&D center in Taiwan will not only directly create business opportunities for our countries in the multimedia industries but will also be expected to drive the technology development and the improvement of technical service support of domestic firms in the related multimedia industries. This is beneficial to the building of a complete multimedia value chain in Taiwan.
