Under government-funded projects, III is in charge of developing advanced networking and multimedia technology for local industries. The main competencies can be categorized into the following: Broadband Wireless Technology III develops techniques related to broadband mobile 4G small cell platforms and cultivates the time-division duplexing based structure. For the time being, it focuses on developing key techniques such as those of wireless access platforms, physical layer integration and so on. It further combines techniques such as het-net self-organizing network and develops the machine type communication needed for the Internet of Things. Over the years, III has well developed the base station system for wireless broadband mobile communication, ASN Gateway and its network management, as well as techniques related to WCDMA L2/L3 Protocal, HSPA Home NodeB and Ethernet L2/L3. Hybrid TV Service Platform Technology III has further developed a hybrid TV service platform which is ideal for TV-networks, content production companies and operators that want to deploy synchronized and immersive companion experiences for their viewers. The platform provides open API and Android as well as iOS SDK for hybrid TV service developers to create applications. Android Embedded Platform Technology III has also developed a wide range of competitive applications on the Android platform based on the ARM and x86 architectures: III's embedded multimedia codec, streaming library, media player, VoIP, IMS-enabled rich communication components and 3-D graphics. These state-of-the-art innovative technologies can be used in the fields of mobile entertainment, surveillance and mobile TV. MeeGo Embedded Platform Technology The development of MeeGo technology is for building up an ODM/OEM/OSV ecosystem for the MeeGo open source platform, and for targeting products such as the Netbook, MID, IVI and Smartphone etc. The core technology of this center includes four [4] MeeGo-based applications and one Chromium-based product. The service-oriented user interface, widget framework, connection manager intelligent agent, smart home S/W platform and local server technology will be adopted widely by the Taiwanese manufacturers for a broader range of devices. Sensor Networks and Intelligent Digital Life III integrates key technologies, such as environment sensing, controlling, and human behavior recognition technologies to further develop the value-chain in the intelligent life industries. With that in mind, III realizes the various possibilities in the future living space by building a ready-to-use information and communication network. For instance, we currently focus on two major application domains -- the green energy management and smart buildings. In addition, III also devotes itself to catalyzing the growth of the industry by offering innovative solution prototypes and demonstrations.Energy ICT III provides a hybrid interconnection technology that allows energy consuming devices to easily connect to an AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) network or an EMS (Energy Management System) , enabling data retrieval and device management. The communication module is comprised of three parts –the base, the concentrator, and an optional bridge. By incorporating interconnection technologies - PLC (Power Line Communication) and RF (Radio Frequency), the module allows devices in existing old buildings that are not originally designed for AMI or EMS to connect online, which will otherwise be impossible, difficult or very expensive to achieve. The module allows devices to connect by using the communication technologies depending on the physical condition of the environment. The base part is used to connect (via non-intrusive electromagnetic coupling) monitored devices to concentrators. The bridge part takes care of the “hybrid” function bridging a PLC network (IP-based) to a RF network (non IP-based). In combination of using two or three parts of the module, cross communication technologies in one system become much more applicable. The above-mentioned technologies are going to be applied in the Cloud Computing Data Center (public cloud/private cloud, education cloud, healthcare cloud, SME cloud domain etc.) By integrating these core technologies to build up, from the clients’ perspectives, the network environment of the next generation, III will assist the government to advance the infrastructure of smart living, and elevate Taiwan’s IT status to an intelligent country.
