Commissioned by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, III International Division executed "Taiwan Digital Opportunity Center(TDOC) Project" and collaborated with Myanmar Computer Federation (MCF) to launch the first solar container computer center in Myanmar. The launching ceremony was held at Tatmadaw Exhibition Hall in Yangon on May 20.Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region Minister for Electricity, Industry and Transportation Ms. Nilar Kyaw, Myanmar Computer Federation CEO Mr. U Khun Oo, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar Secretary Chih-Chiang Wu, and Secretary General of Taiwan Digital Opportunity Center as well as III International Division Executive Director Mei-Li Hsiao attended the ribbon cutting ceremony which was held at the same time with Yangon 2016 ICT Fair where thousands of people were attracted and had the chance to experience the device.
The "Solar Container Computer Center" was remodeled from a 20 feet long container with lots of enterprises from Taiwan and Myanmar contributing collectively. TATUNG donated solar panels and power storage equipment, ACER contributed 16 laptops, QNAP provided cloud servers, Howyar bestowed wireless teaching and learning broadcasting software, and Myanmar Computer Federation was responsible for teaching personnel and total operation of the container.
Since the roads in some areas of Myanmar are extremely narrow, the design of this computer center adopted the small-sized 20-foot-long container so that it is easier to move in and out of the villages in rural areas. Furthermore, in order to solve the problems relating to power shortage as well as power failure, 22 solar panels were installed on the truck to provide the necessary electricity for 2 air conditioners, 4 fans, and 16 laptops within the container. Because of the new power storage technologies, people can still enjoy cool air from the solar powered air conditioners in scorching Yangon and while raining, power supply won't be cut off. The soft power of our products were well exhibited. During the show, there were possible buyers constantly inquired the price of each equipment in the container including the solar panels so one could tell how popular the product was.
In the future, with meals and accommodations for teachers as well as the power supplied by township offices to coordinate with that from solar panels, there will be 2 teachers collocated with the truck making circuit tours in Yangon to provide computer learning and online surfing opportunities for local citizens. Taiwanese brands such as TATUNG, Acer, QNAP also had the chance to be seen in different townships in Yangon along with the circuit tour. This is a operation model that fully reveals the benefits of collaboration between public and private sectors as well as the partnership that Myanmar and Taiwan contributed separately but shortened the digital gap collectively.
As a matter of fact, since 2015, Taiwan Digital Opportunity Center(TDOC) has promoted projects to shorten the digital gap in Myanmar. In addition to the computer center exhibited this time at the ceremony, two Taiwan Digital Opportunity Centers were established mutually with Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar and University of Yangon to provide a series of information and communication classes. In the future, it is expected that more and more partners could join TDOC projects to assist the international society shorten the digital gap and promote information and communication products of Taiwan.
