On January 17th, 2018, III Smart System Institute participated in Wearable Expo 2018 in Japan and exhibited the technological capabilities that Taiwan has developed in domains like AI, AR, and VR. The picture on the left side showed that III Smart System Institute Dr. I-Ting Chiang (the 2nd from the right) explained III Workforce Intelligent Operation Guidance Solution Package. The picture on the right side gave the situation that III Smart System Institute Manger Yu-Jung Cheng explained to company representatives about Diverse Wearable Device Smart Computing Service Platform.
According to the latest IDC semi-annual report on global AR and VR expenditure, the total value of AR and VR industries reached USD 11.4 billion in 2017. It is expected that the total value will increase dramatically and exceed a startling number about USD 215 billion by 2021. The United States and Asian Pacific areas are regarded as the top two markets in terms of AR and VR expenditure.
For showing to the world the AR and VR development in Taiwan, invited by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), III and Jorjin Technologies Inc., one of the smart glass companies in Taiwan, collectively attended Wearable Expo 2018 in Japan from Wednesday, January 17th to Friday, January 19th, and exhibited III Workforce and Activity Intelligence, the two outcomes carried out by III Smart System Institute under the technology development special projects launched by Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Intelligent Operation Guidance Provided by MR Technologies Decreases Maintenance Cost by 20%, Increases Work Efficiency, and Ensures Personal Safety.
Noticing thefact that every government gradually pays more and more attention on workplace safety, III cooperated with smart glass firms to collectively develop III Workforce, which combines "Moving Object Tracking Technologies", "Mixed Reality Precise Overlapping Technologies", and "Vision Calibration Technologies" with smart glasses to provide MR experiences for operation guidance and assistance.
III Workforce could be applied to a variety of factory working environment so that operating personnel could communicate with far-end experts by two way video collaboration and instantly receive accurate operation instructions. This could not only increase the efficiency of operating staffs but also cut maintenance cost by 20% as well as effectively reduce the damage caused by operators ’negligence of industrial safety.
Applying deep learning technologies, Activity Intelligence, the platform offering diverse wearable device intelligent calculation services, could not only analyze IMU signals but also conduct associated data collection and analysis so as to provide motion recognition and detection services. In the future, the platform is applicable to a variety of domains such as the evaluation of home rehabilitation workout, gym exercise, and mobile VR embodied interactive games, etc. What worth mentioning is that all company users of the platform could effectively develop AI wearable device services and easily enter the AI related industries without the need to spend a lot of time and efforts forming technological teams or to recruit professional personnel with AI machining learning background.
To provide the opportunities for visitors to experience the technological capability of the devices in AR and VR domains, III specifically exhibited AR smart glasses at site so that visitors could get the first-hand experience about simulated factory environment and understand the attractiveness of two way video collaboration. Putting on VR devices, users could, by 4 different gestures, drive boxing mobile games exemplifying motion recognition technologies as well as the scenarios in embodied interactive games.
III Smart System Institute Manager Yu-Jung Cheng indicated that III Smart System Institute will proactively continue to promote two critical technologies, III Workforce Intelligent Operation Guidance Solution Package and Diverse Wearable Device Smart Computing Service Platform, so that they can be applied to a variety of industrial domains. Situations include detecting the working environment of operators to protect industrial safety and decrease the number of accidents, correcting body movements in the fields of sports and fitness industries to alleviate damage resulted from sport injuries, assisting doctors track patients' motions, or even applying the technologies to daily life circumstances such as conducting long distance medical education, health management of the senior, long term care, and emotion management, etc. By the international collaboration opportunities in Wearable Expo 2018, III established the connections with global cross-domain well-known brands and built the bridges for Taiwanese companies entering global wearable device markets so as to grasp the blue ocean business opportunities in AI, AR, and MR domains.
