Institute for Information Industry held its 40th anniversary celebration event on July 24th , 2019. Ming-hsin Kung, Minister without Portfolio of Executive Yuan, Jong-Chin Shen, Minister of Ministry of Economic Affairs, Raymond Greene, AIT Acting Director, Mitsuaki Hoshino, Deputy Representative of Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, and Chi-Chao Wan, Secretary-general of K.T. Li Foundation for Development of Science and Technology all attended the event on invitation. They strongly affirmed the contribution of III over the past 40 years regarding enterprise digital transformation, caring for the development of technology in rural areas, leading the trend and implementation of innovative technologies. They collectively participate in the event and witnessed the important milestones of the Institute, which has already embarked on various plans for the next decade to come.
Minister without Portfolio of Executive Yuan Ming-hsin Kung pointed out in his speech that at the time when there was not even the term “information” in Taiwan, not to mention “information industry”, III planted the crucial seeds for the industry and played corresponding roles in various development stages. Nowadays, facing the wave of digital transformation, III dedicates itself to
assisting industry players in the process of digital transformation and further provide them with digital transformation technologies and solutions. Ming-hsin Kung further indicated that during the Journey of Freedom, Democracy and Sustainability, President Tsai Ing-wen and St. Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves jointly launched the intelligent e-Bus and monitoring system, which is the first time that the integrated output of smart city system became one of the important collaboration projects between our country and diplomatic allies. This is also an imperative result of the joint efforts of the Institute and the domestic manufacturers to assist overseas diplomatic allies in their digital transformation course.
Minister of Ministry of Economic Affairs Jong-Chin Shen particularly recognized the contribution of III for the promotion of Taiwan's industries in every aspect. The institute not only serves as a government think tank facilitating the promotion of various bills but also assists in the development of different industries with its software research and development capabilities. In terms of industrial applications, III helped first-line manufactures like Unimicron, Chin-Poon, Unitech to organize a "PCB A team" so as to help the manufacturing lines to be more intelligent and achieve the goal of Industry 4.0. Jong-Chin Shen also consider the cultivation of talents one of the most crucial tasks since the founding of the organization. Therefore, he praised “Learning Beyond School Alliance”for its long-distance live broadcast learning projects, which assisted 771 schools and 28,568 participants to reduce the digital gap between cities and rural areas where minority and disadvantaged ethnic groups locate.
III Chairman Chih-Kung Lee also mentioned that two years ago on July 24th , the Ministry of Economic Affairs held the law person reform press conference announcing the initiation of reformation at all foundations so as to respond to external challenges and industrial demands, as well as the society's long-standing expectations for these units. In the past two years, in the process of reformation, III has clearly set its new positioning as a "digital transformation enabler”. For the next forty years, Chairman Chih-Kung Lee even expects that III must take the lead in learning how to control more high-tech elements, and then work with more partners in the fields of industry, university, and research for the education and demonstration of more cases with regard to “Work Smart”, “Transformation Smart”, and “Revolution Smart” talents and work patterns.
This is also the task that a "digital transformational enabler" must always keep in mind and actively find ways out for various domestic industries.
III Facilitates Enterprise Digital Transformation, Integrates Forward-looking Technologies and Consulting Services, and Establishes “Digital Transformation School”.
According to III’s observations, the most critical areas for digital transformation in the future include artificial intelligence, block chain, cloud, big data analysis, edge computing, and 5G, ABCDEFG in short. When the development of these technologies is close to maturity, these technologies can be integrated and applied to different fields to maximize the utilities. By the integrated transformation and upgrading plan proposed by III, Taiwanese manufacturers can introduce digital technologies and optimize production processes, so that Taiwanese industries can extend their innovations on the basis of existing technologies. III works hard with Taiwanese companies to bring product quality up to international level and helps Taiwan paly an important role in the global market!
In fact, in 2018, III has responded to the trend and set a new organizational goal whose core target is becoming a "digitally transformed educator". Having the aim in mind, III provided the textile, manufacturing, service, and financial industries with one-stop digital transformation services, from problem diagnosis and consulting to internal enterprises transformation. Currently, enterprise partners include Li-Peng, ASE Technology Holding, Fair Friend Group, Yes Chain Pharmacy, Hua-Nan Bank, etc. III assists these partners to adjust their businesses from inside out including business management, production, marketing and other processes, and gradually implements the enterprise goals of upgrading and transformation.
Having built an Information Society from Ground Zero, III Now Taking the Lead to Help Enterprises Develop their Potential to the Unlimited Extend
Forty years ago, supported by Mr. K.T. Li, III was formally established on July 24, 1979. From the holding of Information Technology Month and Information Technology Week, III successfully created an information curation brand, driving the information trend across Taiwan, enhancing Taiwan ’s Internet infrastructure, and further building an E-government system. Afterwards, in response to the booming of PC market, the Institute for Information Technology set up an analysis department digging into industrial information to provide the most forward-looking trend analysis for various companies. In addition, in order to promote the relevant information and communication bills, III further recruited a professional legal team to study and come up with a complete information bill system for the government. While promoting the development of science and technology, III also tries to reach every corner of Taiwan's rural areas. From the "Digital Opportunity Center" project after 921 to the current "i-Tribe Love Tribes" plan, III promotes these plans to reduce the digital gap between urban and rural areas, and helps tribes improve their lifestyles with advanced technologies.
In the past, III has built an information society from scratch in Taiwan, the results of which finally take root and gradually are recognized all around Taiwan in recent years. III not only provides various technology applications for enterprises located in counties and cities, but also assists central and local governments in planning a blueprint for the digital economy. At the same time, III works with Taiwan's educational institutions to build talent cultivation bases. Nowadays, with the endless innovations coming from various fields, III will continue to lead the trend of the times. For governments, III should provide more forward-looking regulatory recommendations to respond to future trends. For enterprises, III is looking forward to providing a new perspective and assists them substantially from both the trend and technological sides. For the people, III will construct digital infrastructure in all places under the principle of equality and practice humanitarian care with scientific and technological applications. By working wholeheartedly in all aspects, III expects to help Taiwan regain the glory and achieve a new milestone in the digital economy!
