Taiwan is world-renowned for its semiconductor design and manufacturing. In order to construct a domestically grown new innovation ecosystem for Taiwan's IC industry, with the support from Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Institute for Information Industry (III) built the IoT Service Hub. On the occasion of the 5th anniversary since its establishment, IoT Service Hub held "Taiwan IC Intelligent Manufacturing Annual Conference" for the first time, which started from November 10th for two consecutive days. The conference invited nearly 20 domestic IC companies, module factories, system integrators and key communities to present and share their experience, including 9 seminars on the theme of AIoT intelligent manufacturing and 4 hands-on experience workshops, which attracted more than 100 people to participate and witness the abundant innovation energy of Taiwan's IC intelligent manufacturing industry.
From scratch, the "IoT Service Hub" started with the "Internet of Things Development Board for Public Utilization", using Taiwan's IC chips and modules as the core, and joined hands with many well-known domestic IC companies to launch 8 "Taiwan IC AIoT Development Solutions". At the same time, the "IoT Service Hub" also cooperated with IoT community leaders and industrial intelligent manufacturing service groups, and called on local enterprises, maker bases, incubation centers and colleges and universities in the north, central and south to effectively integrate technologies and application supports into an ecosystem and improve open source application of Taiwan IC in the innovative IoT market.
To gather the resources of the industry, the Institute for Information Industry (III) held the "Taiwan IC Intelligent Manufacturing Annual Conference'' and invited Cheng Chin Lu, Deputy Director of Information Technology Industries Division, Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Yu-Fan Harriot Lin, Director General of Digital Transformation Research Institute (DTRI), Institute for Information Industry to attend the event and give their support. At the scene, there were representatives from a variety of companies from different domains such as MediaTek, Realtek Semiconductor, Coretronic MEMS, Silicon Application, AcSiP, Sintegration, iotTech, Winstec, MQTT and AIoT Integrated Application Community, and Omni-eXtened Reality Interaction (OmniXRI), etc.
Together, participants analyzed the multiple integration and application strength of the "Taiwan IC Development Solution" and the trend of international development to demonstrate Taiwan's strong AIoT cross-domain integration capability.
Cheng Chin Lu, Deputy Director of Information Technology Industries Division, Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), Ministry of Economic Affairs, indicated that since its establishment 5 years ago, "IoT Service Hub" has completed more than 480 AIoT products for pre-mass production evaluation, and assisted more than 100 AIoT innovative products to enter mass production. Among them, 52% of the products use domestic ICs to achieve product optimization, including products in the fields of medical electronics, traditional industries in the process of transformation, ESG, and smart life, etc. "IoT Service Hub" successfully launched 8 different types of IC Development Board for Public Utilization and there are more and more large, medium and small IC factories actively participating in various projects so that the results are fruitful.
Cheng Chin Lu, also mentioned that in the next four years, the "IoT Service Hub"
will help strengthen the connection between Taiwan's semiconductor firms and the international AIoT innovation markets. By cooperating with major domestic IC manufacturers as well as software and hardware integration companies, the "IoT Service Hub" can help domestic firms meet the market demand for domestic and foreign products. In the future, the "IoT Service Hub" is also expected to advance to Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, America and other regions, extending its service to countries all over the world, and making Taiwan an international one-stop service base for AIoT technical support.
Yu-Fan Harriot Lin, Director General of Digital Transformation Research Institute (DTRI), Institute for Information Industry (III) pointed out that the "IoT Service Hub" is closely linked to the original resources of domestic IC manufacturers, from the original IC factory's technical documents, training materials, promotional demonstration teaching plans, to hardware acquisition channels and small sales prices, etc., enriching the open source assets and environment
of AIoT services. Also, the "IoT Service Hub" integrates domestic IC and SI manufacturers to form a supporting ecosystem. This time, by holding the "Taiwan IC Intelligent Manufacturing Annual Conference", the Hub will help accelerate the development of the IoT industry and let more people understand the integration and application of domestic ICs as well as the innovative markets.
In addition to "Taiwan IC Intelligent Manufacturing Annual Conference'' held on November 10th focusing on two directions, domestic IC technical support and domestic IC X AIoT community application, the "IoT Service Hub" selected several domestic IC AIoT development kits for the participants, including IC companies, software and hardware integrators, product development companies, and field operators who intend to invest in the AIoT innovation market, and assisted them to explore the characteristics and multiple integration applications of each solution through practical experience. The participation of these firms is conducive to the improvement of Taiwan's IC technology and the formation of an application support ecosystem.
*Note: The "IoT Service Hub" is an accelerator for IoT products to mass production. With the support from Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), through "thorough inventory inspection, itinerant diagnosis, fixed-point consultation and evacuation", the "IoT Service Hub", as the industrial hub, gathers resources from companies in the field of software, hardware, system integration, design, and production. By focusing on promoting key technical services such as "domestic IC intelligent manufacturing", "product intelligent manufacturing" and "industrial intelligent manufacturing", the Hub helps products with potential to break through the bottleneck, enter mass production, and be successfully launched, thereby facilitating Taiwan's intelligently manufactured products entering the global markets.
