Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE), the largest event in Taiwan's technology industry, exhibited more than a thousand innovative technologies at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 on October 13th , among which artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which is widely used in daily life, attracted much attention. Supported by the special project funded by the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the Institute for Information Industry (III) showcased 5 cross-field AI solutions, including topics on anti-hacking information security technology, smart transportation, manufacturing, and aquaculture fishery, which are valued highly by the companies in the industry. These solutions will be conducive to accelerating the digital transformation of Taiwan's society and industry.
To cultivate the international competitiveness of Taiwan's industries, the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), spares no effort dedicating to scientific and technological projects to develop innovative technologies every year, supports III to conduct multi-field research and development, and improves the information and communication technology for industrial transformation. The " ITRI V2X System Solution (iRoadSafe) ", "Large Vehicle Inner Wheel Difference Blind Spot Active Warning System", "Digital Twin Solution for Smart Fishery", "Resilience Smart Maintenance System (RSMS)", and “ICS End-Point Security Analysis Technique & Cyber Kill Cain Threat hunting Platform” are exhibited at Taiwan Innotech Expo this time, all of which are aiming at industrial pain points so as to provide innovative solutions. These solutions have not only won a number of domestic technology awards, but also be applied by various units from the industry, government and academia to create a number of industrial AI implementations and demonstrations, strengthening the competitiveness of each user.
Taiwan's Smart Transportation Technology Improves Pedestrian Safety
As the old saying goes, the streets are like the jaws of death. Especially in Taiwan, there are a wide variety of vehicles running on streets, including large vehicles, automobiles, scooters, bicycles and other vehicles, etc. In the face of situations like bad weather, or unclear traffic signs, etc., the risk of traffic accidents also increases accordingly. The Software Technology Institute, Institute for Information Industry (III) showcases the world's first smart road technology "Smart Road Safety Warning System" in the expo, which is able to integrate vehicle, roadside and cloud systems. With AI technology as the core, it integrates communication signals, sensors, and traffic signals. By combining information from vehicle, roadside and cloud systems, the system can perform mixed traffic image recognition around the clock, which is capable of identifying over 10 more vehicle types than frequently used international systems. Furthermore, this system can still maintain a recognition rate of over 90% in all weathers to provide early warning of high-risk events and to reduce traffic accidents for passers-by. Therefore, the system won the 2022 Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award.
In addition to developing smart road technology for mixed traffic flow, the Software Technology Institute, Institute for Information Industry (III) also notices that there are as many as 1,500 large vehicle involved traffic accidents each year in Taiwan, most of which are caused by the blind spots created by the inner wheel difference, while these large vehicles turn left or right. To reduce the accident rate of large vehicles, the Software Technology Institute has developed the "Large Vehicle Inner Wheel Difference Blind Spot Active Warning System", which uses AI image recognition deep learning database technology, Formosa, to provide safety warning services for large vehicle drivers as soon as objects are being detected in the blind spots formed by inner wheel differences. When automobiles, motorcycles or pedestrians are in the blind spot of a large vehicle driver or within the gap between the inner wheels of a turn, the system will give a safety warning in the form of sound, light, or video. Furthermore, according to the distance, speed and degree of urgency, the system can actively warn and brake automatically, effectively avoiding driving accidents. This technology was also acknowledged by the Intelligent Transportation Industry Innovation Award given by Intelligent Transportation Society of Taiwan last year.
The Introduction of AI Technology in the Manufacturing Industry and Aquaculture Fishery Greatly Reduces Losses
As the global economy continues to recover, the growth momentum of Taiwan's manufacturing industry remains strong. When the production line is full of orders,
Production line maintenance shutdowns resulted from hardware equipment abnormalities are what companies fear the most. Therefore, III Regional Digital Transformation Innovation Hub(RDTIH), Digital Transformation Research Institute (DTRI) utilizes edge computing and AI applications to build the " Resilience Smart Maintenance System (RSMS)", which is conducive to diagnosing the wear and tear of production machinery and equipment in advance. Production line parts can be replaced before problems occur to avoid production line downtime for maintenance and keep the production line running continuously. With the system, recession period can be predicted 2 weeks in advance and the accuracy is as high as 90%. Furthermore, RSMS can also provide instant on-site maintenance suggestions and solve the problems regarding data timing synchronization. This technology can also provide equipment manufacturers with the advantages of intelligent, modular, and cloud-based equipment maintenance knowledge, greatly improving after-sales maintenance and operation capabilities and strengthening supply chain resilience
This time, in Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE), the transformation technology of traditional aquaculture fishery was also a highlight. To digitally record the knowledge of fishery experts and staff, the Software Technology Institute of Institute for Information Industry has developed the "Digital Twin Solution for Smart Fishery", which uses digital avatar technology combined with AI to dynamically learn the experience and knowledge of how fishermen breed. The system operates 24 hours a day, installs sensors to record fishermen's on-site operations, and establishes the decision-making behavior knowledge models. Whether it is the water quality and temperature of the aquaculture pond, or the growth status of the fish, this system accurately simulates the real situation to provide the best aquaculture decision-making suggestions, and effectively assists fishermen to avoid fishery losses. With the help of the latest technology, tech fishermen are able to transform the aquaculture fishery and build virtual fish farms in the digital world so that they can achieve the goal of precision production and greatly improve production efficiency.
III Researches and Develops Information Security Technology to Prevent Hackers and Improve Corporate Environment Security
According to Trend Micro's 2021 Internet Security Report, Taiwan ranks among the top ten in the world in the number of ransomware attacks. Obviously, while developing smart technology, enterprises must also pay attention to all-round information security management and control. For this reason, III Cybersecurity Technology Institute (CSTI) develops “ICS End-Point Security Analysis Technique & Cyber Kill Cain Threat hunting Platform”, which combines associated information with AI-assisted APT attack chain identification technology
to assist enterprises in identifying hacker attacks and responding to threats in advance. Furthermore, the platform utilizes AI technology to actively depict hacker attack tracks, and uses the ATT&CK information security framework proposed by MITER to accurately detect advanced persistent threat attacks. In addition, the platform can also design cloud services and local services according to user needs, making the enterprise environment more secure. In international on-site test, this technology has performed well in comparison to the other industrial control systems in the manufacturing industry, and has also attracted the attention of many domestic cybersecurity service providers.
Breaking through time and space constraints, the 2022 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) was held in Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from October 13th until 15th, and online exhibition services would also be accessible until October 20th; the 5 cross-field AI technology applications proposed by the Institute for Information Industry are exhibited at the "Innovation Navigator Hall". During the exhibition, there were also services such as international forums, technical presentations, corporate tours, intellectual property consultation, and one-on-one business matching, etc. For detailed activities, please visit the official website of 2022 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) (https://www.inventaipei.com.tw /zh-tw/index.html).
