Doing good can also help relieve the stress of our planet! The Institute for Information Industry (III), a non-profit organization, values the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, III President, Cheng-hung Cho, proactively supports the concept of the brand "Merry Young Happy Socks" established by Maria Social Welfare Foundation. He visited the Merry Young Happy Socks store in person to experience the daily work of young people with mental and intellectual disabilities. Additionally, III co-branded and co-produced 300 boxes of Merry Young Happy Socks charity gift boxes with the Maria Social Welfare Foundation, recycling and reusing 1,800 plastic bottles for the planet. Through this action, III aims to lead by example and encourages all sectors to protect the underprivileged and prioritize environmental sustainability in their daily lives, jointly creating a better future.
The Merry Young Happy Socks are knitted from yarn made by recycling plastic bottles. Each pair of socks is made from the yarn of two recycled plastic bottles. Not only do these socks represent the manifestation of the great importance put on green sustainability and the support for the artistic creations of young people with physical and mental disabilities, but they are also a symbol of more job opportunities for underprivileged groups. The production of these socks is the implementation of the three core goals of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, and responsible consumption and production. This is an example of a social enterprise fully exercising its power. The Institute for Information Industry has long utilized its technological research and development capabilities to promote its emphasis on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) sustainable development, which aligns perfectly with the concept of Merry Young Happy Socks, thus initiating their first collaboration.
In addition to producing the Merry Young Happy Socks charity gift boxes and recycling 1,800 plastic bottles for the planet, III also donated its self-developed 1,000 small items to be used as gifts for the Merry Young Happy Socks fundraising event. Notably, III President Cheng-hung Cho recently visited the store in person to participate in the "Sustainable Living Tour Course," experiencing the daily work of young people with mental and intellectual disabilities in gift box packaging.
III President Cheng-Hung Cho happily stated, "Seeing the energetic youth guiding us around the store and teaching us about how to make the sock packages was truly touching! I also tried folding the packaging boxes with them on-site, and I was far behind. They are experts in their crafts, and there is much for me to learn from them." Cho also mentioned that in the field of information and communications technology, III is dedicated to assisting industries in digital transformation, and in recent years, promoting dual-axis transformation.
During the implementation process of the work associated with green and environmental protection concepts, III realized that a significant portion of the work must rely on digital technology, only through which could trust be built and objective standards be established. This is also the direction III will strive towards in the coming years.
The Institute for Information Industry has long been concerned about the digital gap among indigenous children and disadvantaged groups. Every year, III collaborates with businesses to donate computers to remote areas and promote various technology experience activities. In its first collaboration with Merry Young Happy Socks, III hopes to help young people from Maria Social Welfare Foundation become self-reliant. Also, III has produced two videos to promote the "Sustainable Living Guide Courses" made by Maria Social Welfare Foundation, aiming to inspire awareness of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) for global sustainable development and cultivate understanding and respect for people with mental and intellectual disabilities. Through these efforts, III expects to encourage everyone to contribute love and devote efforts to the environment and disadvantaged groups.
