These are the daily morning routines at a typical manufacturing plant: in the morning, an employee clocks in with his access card, he walks to his machine, turns it on waits for it to warm-up, then prepares to conduct his daily operations. This entire process, according to the manufacturing plant's long-term data collection and experience, takes around 15 minutes.
One day, it took 30 minutes for this same employee to complete the machine startup, warm-up, and operation processes. Management is notified of this situation via Servolution services and heads toward the fabrication unit to provide immediate support. As it turned out, the employee was injured before arriving at work, and he was being treated at the medical office before starting his work. The management quickly assigned additional workers to facilitate the completion of the scheduled daily production volume, successfully preventing an accident from impacting normal production operations.
From "Report" to "Support" - Increase Factory Efficiency Exponentially
Using different systems to achieve efficient management is nothing new. From the IC and LCD industries, to large-scaled enterprises, many companies have the budget and resources to obtain systems that increase management efficiency. However, for the precision machinery industry, a gap has long existed between the application of ICT technology and perceived added value, resulting in the failure to integrate the value chain and achieve value-added connection in the precision machinery industry.
To bridge this gap, the Institute of Information Industry (III) has collaborated with precision machinery providers to create an infrastructure platform based on many years of actual plant verification experience, establishing the complete solution - Servolution. Servolution not only uses ICT technologies to manage factory big data, it also transforms detailed machinery operations into real-time production efficiency data. Servolution is capable of detecting equipment anomalies, identify causes of malfunction, and elevates the data transparency of precision machinery operations. Servolution plays the role of a doctor and a consultant for Taiwan's precision manufacturing industry. With systematic information, it discovers methods for improving factory efficiency from within the production process.
This set of integrated, cross-machine value-added service operates on data collected by Servolution during the production processes, and establishes a highly intelligent communication management platform. This platform connects and collects information from all machines within the factory, so that front-end manufacturing data is transmitted to the back-end platforms for processing and analysis. Management receives real-time production data, a vast improvement from the past when problems could only be addressed after production reports were compiled. By replacing "report", a retrospective review of past events, with "support", which enables early response and immediate resolution, the factory efficiency is naturally increased dramatically.
Save Money by Only Paying for What You Use
Through Servolution's innovative solution and flexible operation models, III established a spin-off company, Servetech Co. Ltd., in August of 2014. By using the R&D results from technological development programs, Servetech provides key production process data application service solutions to transform factory production management and intelligent control efficiency. This has enabled the company to successfully enter the market to answer manufacturing industry's demand for "intelligent automation". App rentals are also provided for clients to try in order to gain their trust. By using big data analysis to improve fabrication procedures, adaptive rentals provide customized services and allow for the development of innovative business models.
Servetech's innovative "adaptive rental" means that manufacturers can download different app bundles based on their production needs. Clients are required to pay for only what they use. In the future, if the apps are no longer needed, they can be removed at any time. For small and medium businesses and manufacturers with limited resources, only a small budget is required to invest in the building of a system that will enable them to receive first-hand information from front-end production lines, provide immediate response and support, and enhance production efficiency.
Servetech was also awarded the 2014 APEC Accelerator Leadership Summit and the New Ventures Challenge Intel Award for Servolution, and participated in the Intel APEC Global Challenge in Silicon Valley. Out of 26 elite teams from 20 different countries around the world, Servetech was awarded the gold medal in the "Internet, Mobile, and Software Computing" category, becoming the proud representative of Taiwan's technological prowess in software and hardware integration.
Today, Intel's recognition of Servetech's capabilities has given the company global acclaim, as well as the attention of many investors and strategic partners. Aside from being awarded the angel investment fund from the National Development Council, Servetech is also in the process of establishing partnerships with around 40 major domestic manufacturers, including Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co., LTD., Fatek, Agmachine Techno Co., Ltd., and Shieh Yih Machinery Industry Co., Ltd. The technologies provided by Servetech are already capable of providing comprehensive support for over 80% of computer numerical controllers (CNC) commercially available, and are fully compatible with data sources from programmable logic controllers (PLC), automation equipment, transportation equipment, and testing equipment, thereby offering real-time machinery monitoring and enhancing production line efficiency. In the future, Servetech will continue to provide software upgrades and advancements, use innovative information and communication technologies to proactively assist Taiwan's precision machinery manufacturers with industry transitions and upgrades, and achieve limitless competitiveness.
Future Vision
By using ICT technologies to management factory big data, Servolution assists management with improving production procedures and increase production efficiency.
